WEO is well aware of the importance of helping the government understand the importance of eye care and education for the public.

With these objectives in mind, WEO has regularly invited internationally renowned ophthalmological authorities to giving lectures in China.

The first WEO Outstanding Scholar Award was given to Prof. Torsten Wiesel, Nobel Prize Laureate and director of the WEO Board, on Sept 8, 2002, for his outstanding achievement in ophthalmologic research.
